Are You Eligible for a Free Eye Test?

Depending on your age or circumstances you might be entitled to a free eye test funded by the NHS. If you are eligible, all you need to do is inform your Coventry opticians of choice and fill in a simple form. You can get an NHS eye test once every two years if you remain eligible.

The age based eligibility is as follows:

  • If you are under the age of 16.
  • If you are under the age of 19 and are currently in full-time education.
  • If you are over the age of 60.
  • If you are over the age of 40 and one of your immediate relatives has been diagnosed with glaucoma.

Benefit based eligibility is as follows:

  • If you receive income support.
  • If you receive income based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
  • If you receive income based Employment and Support Allowance.
  • If you are named on or are eligible for a NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
  • If you are named on a valid certificate from the NHS for full help with health costs.

Other things that may make you eligible are as follows:

  • You’ve been told by a qualified eye doctor that you are at high risk of glaucoma.
  • You are an on leave prisoner.
  • You’re eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher.

In addition to having your eye test covered by the NHS you may be able to have a mobile eye test if you are unable to leave your home because of mental or physical disability or illness.
