Eye Conditions: Astigmatism

Astigmatism is when one’s eye is not round. This is an eye condition that happens to almost everyone at one point in their life. When a person has astigmatism, when light hits they eye it is makes objects appear less clear. Light when entering the eye, is diverted more in one direction than another and when that happens, only part of an object can be focused at one time. Things in a distance often look wavy and blurry. Astigmatism is the cause of blurred vision; however, it is not clear what causes this to happen.

Symptoms of astigmatism are blurred vision, eyestrain and fatigue. It is comforting to know that this eye condition can be treated with contact lenses, eyeglasses or surgery. This eye condition can increase slowly and that is why some opticians suggest that you see your optometrist whenever not notice any vision changes that affect your vision; especially if they affect your daily activities. Opticians in Coventry can help you with all of your eye concerns; especially astigmatism.

This eye condition can be corrected easily with prescribed eyeglasses or contact lenses unless a person has other health issues such as farsightedness or nearsightedness. Other treatments for astigmatism are refractive surgery. This is when the shape of the cornea is changed. However, refractive surgery can only be done if one’s eyes are healthy and do not have any corneal scars, retinal problems or other eye diseases.
